A competitive advantage can be simply defined as the advantage or the ability of a firm over its competitors in the industry or allow a company to outperform its rivals in the industry.

The company is called a competitive advantage when you have the ability nor the means to push its competitors out of this’ for customers. This applies internationally and locally, and both services and products. Thus, a sustainable competitive advantage of permanence, the company applies despite the efforts of competitors or potential competitors to copy, or ignore it. Sustainable development therefore requires that the strategic assets are not readily available to others and not very mobile. This is considered later.

Porter (1990) states, but not all nations are ahead of the competition, the home nation that shape the competitive advantage is the starting point for competitive advantage within the company and also, it must be maintained. But no matter the field of activity, creating competitive advantage to be the election of directors, and you really get results. It should be noted that competitive advantage can generally be attributed to one of three roots:

superior resources, superior skills and superior position.

competitive strategy is one way in which the company refers to its surroundings in competition with other companies who are also trying to fit within the environment. And ‘this aspect of the competition, strategy, if properly selected and properly implemented gives the company a competitive advantage over their competitors.

It should be noted here that the normative perspective of strategic planning emphasizes the importance of organizational environment as a source of threats and opportunities and the need for an effective response by the organization if the survival and success is achieved. The answer is later in the plan that develops the big decisions about entering new markets or develop new products and services guided by the objectives. Influenced by the writings of Porter in the 1980’s attention shifted to plan for the selection of a suitable generic strategy to position the business unit in its competitive environment. Porter, considering that the environment poses threats and opportunities of the trends and events, suggested that the environment could be analyzed using the five forces to identify problems affecting the level of competition in an industry, after which is formulated a strategy to combat this scourge.
